Rock in Rio is officially entering the running calendar with Rock in Run, scheduled for September 2028. The event will feature 5k and 10k routes finishing inside Cidade do Rock.
The worlds of major music festivals and road racing are increasingly connected. Rock in Rio has confirmed its official entry into the sports calendar with the launch of Rock in Run, a road race scheduled to debut in September 2028 in Rio de Janeiro.
Race structure and finish at Cidade do Rock
The inaugural edition of Rock in Run will feature 5 km and 10 km routes with an estimated capacity of up to 10,000 participants. The format features a sunset start, guiding athletes through the streets of Rio to a finish line set directly inside Cidade do Rock.
The race will take place during the test event preceding the main festival's opening. As a result, runners will get exclusive access to the venue setup, along with an extended schedule that includes live concerts and themed brand activations right after crossing the finish line.
The rise of sports and music events
The festival's official narrative ties the creation of the race to the classic sprint fans make when the gates open to reach the Palco Mundo barricade. However, the project also reflects an established trend in the sports industry: combining entertainment, live music, and road running, mirroring similar formats drawing massive crowds worldwide.
