Tokyo Marathon Opens Slots for International Volunteers
The Tokyo Marathon Foundation has formalized its Voluntainer program for international volunteers across key roles at the Japanese Major.
The Tokyo Marathon has expanded its official volunteer program to residents living outside Japan. Volunteers will support hydration stations, security, and the finish line during the event's largest edition in history.
For those dreaming of experiencing the Tokyo Marathon atmosphere up close without running 26.2 miles, a new opportunity has just opened up. The Tokyo Marathon Foundation has officially expanded its volunteer program to individuals living outside Japan.
The initiative was previously piloted with about 30 international participants working in English-language roles. The positive outcome ensured the program was permanently integrated into the event's official operational structure.
How to Apply and Key Roles
To participate, interested applicants must register through Voluntainer, the race's official volunteer club. International registration opens on October 6.
Selected volunteers will be able to assist in various operational areas. Available options include hydration stations, security teams, cleanup support, and the bustling finish line—one of the most exciting spots of the race.
Logistics and Behind the Scenes of a Major
It is worth noting that logistical costs are entirely the responsibility of each participant: airfare, accommodation, and meals are not covered by the organization. Even so, the initiative offers an excellent opportunity for companions and family members traveling to Japan alongside runners.
The Tokyo Marathon is preparing to welcome 40,000 participants for its edition on March 7, marking the largest field in its history. The race will also host the Abbott World Marathon Majors Age Group World Championships for athletes over 40, making volunteer support even more critical to the event's success.
