Brazilian Women Set Registration Record for Comrades Marathon

With 63 confirmed athletes, the women's field surpasses the 50-entry goal for the historic South African ultramarathon.

Brazilian women are set to make history at the upcoming Comrades Marathon. With 63 runners confirmed, the country comfortably exceeded the target set by race ambassadors in South Africa.

Brazil's female participation in the legendary Comrades Marathon is set to reach a historic milestone in its next edition. Thanks to a dedicated mobilization and outreach effort, 63 Brazilian women runners have already secured their spots to take on the challenge along South Africa's roads.

The initiative led by race ambassador Zilma Rodrigues—who actively works to boost Brazilian female representation in the ultramarathon—easily surpassed its initial target. The project's goal was to bring together 50 participants, a figure well eclipsed by the 63 registered runners, with Zilma herself lining up at the start.

The campaign to expand Brazil's presence at the event also benefits from the dedication of fellow ambassador Nato Amaral, who actively promotes the race nationwide alongside legendary figures in Brazilian ultrarunning, such as Márcio Miller, the first Brazilian athlete to complete the Comrades course.

Held annually in South Africa, the Comrades Marathon is one of the world's oldest and most prestigious ultramarathons, alternating direction each year between the cities of Durban and Pietermaritzburg. In total, the Brazilian contingent will feature an impressive 297 registered runners for the upcoming race edition.
