Altra Launches Running Team of Athletes Over 75
With a combined 321 years, the Legacy Team unites four British veterans to challenge early sports dropouts.
Altra has brought together four British running veterans between the ages of 75 and 85 to form the Legacy Team, Britain's oldest running team. The initiative addresses early sports dropout rates and will lead to the release of a free book, The Long Run.
Sports brand Altra has launched a campaign centered on longevity and inspiration in athletics by unveiling the Legacy Team, billed as Britain's oldest running team. The quartet brings together four British runners aged 75 to 85 who collectively boast 321 years of life and decades dedicated to training.
The four members of the Legacy Team
The roster features remarkable resumes on both the track and the road: Peter Giles (82), British 5K age-group record holder; Lorna Cummins (85), holder of an astonishing 204 age-group records; Ranjier Singh (79); and Pritpal Kaur (75), the oldest British Asian woman to complete the London Marathon that year.
Research and the launch of a free book
The initiative was inspired by findings from a study commissioned by Altra. The research revealed that the average British runner quits the sport at just 39 years old—with a third of those who stopped citing injuries as the primary reason for walking away early.
To counter this trend and encourage lifelong running across generations, the quartet will front the campaign and contribute to the release of The Long Run. The free book will compile advice, lessons, and wisdom gathered by the four athletes over their lifelong sporting journeys.
The campaign also marks a distinct shift in sports marketing strategy: rather than relying solely on high-reach social media influencers, the footwear brand—widely known for its zero-drop running shoes—chose to champion authentic stories of resilience and longevity on the road.
