Cardiff Half Breaks Records with SuperHalfs Series

Joyciline Jepkosgei shattered the Welsh race record, which drew 5,700 international runners.

The Cardiff Half Marathon achieved major milestones with over 30,000 runners and a new women's course record by Joyciline Jepkosgei. Boosted by the SuperHalfs series, the Welsh race welcomed 5,700 international participants from 99 countries.

The Cardiff Half Marathon reaffirmed its standing on the international calendar by posting impressive numbers across both elite and mass fields. Kenya's Joyciline Jepkosgei won the Welsh race in 1:05:40, taking 12 seconds off the event's women's course record that had stood since 2017. In total, the weekend brought together more than 30,000 entrants throughout the streets of the Welsh capital.

The impact of the SuperHalfs series

A large share of this international field reflects the momentum of the SuperHalfs, a circuit that brings together half marathons in Lisbon, Prague, Berlin, Copenhagen, Cardiff, and Valencia. The Welsh event hosted a historic high of 5,700 foreign runners representing 99 countries. Across the entire field, approximately 10,500 athletes were taking part in the series, with 700 crossing the finish line in Cardiff to officially complete the entire circuit for the year.

Brazilian participation in the series also reached a significant milestone: more than 100 runners from the country have now earned the coveted SuperHalfs SuperMedal, bringing the total to 115 finishers after 20 Brazilians completed their sixth and final stage in Cardiff. The milestone highlights how multi-race series continue to fuel sports tourism, placing historic destinations—such as Cardiff, known for its high density of castles per capita—firmly on the global running map.
