Agnes Ngetich Breaks World Record at Copenhagen Half

The Kenyan runner clocked 1:05:15 in a women-only race, shaving one second off the 2020 historic mark.

Kenya's Agnes Ngetich secured victory and a new women-only half marathon world record in Copenhagen. With a time of 1:05:15, she surpassed the previous record by a single second.

Just one second separated history from a new world record at the Copenhagen Half Marathon. Setting a dominant pace from start to finish, Kenya's Agnes Ngetich celebrated the achievement by dedicating the win to her mother after clocking 1:05:15.

With this performance, Ngetich shaved exactly one second off the previous women-only half marathon world record, which had been held by fellow Kenyan Peres Jepchirchir since 2020. Taking the lead right from the gun, Ngetich built a 10-second advantage before reaching the 5 km mark and crossed the finish line 50 seconds ahead of compatriot Veronica Loleo.

Women-only vs. mixed races

It is worth noting the technical distinction recognized by World Athletics for road records: the 1:05:15 mark is valid for events contested exclusively by women. In mixed races, where female runners share the course and pace with male competitors, the global record still belongs to Ethiopia's Letesenbet Gidey at 1:02:52.

The Danish event also featured Brazilian athletes across side distances and the main half marathon, highlighted by Giovani dos Santos as the top Brazilian in the 21 km, along with 5 km appearances by Jânio (13:41), Thiago André (clocking in the 14-minute range), and Núbia.
