The world of major marathons often brings curious and inspiring stories, but preparations for the London Marathon have introduced an unexpected participant to the 26.2-mile field: Daddy Pig. The famous character from the children's animated series Peppa Pig has taken on the challenge as part of an official initiative linked to the franchise.
Charity campaign and magazine cover
The reason behind the run is a meaningful cause: raising funds for the National Deaf Children's Society, a British organization dedicated to supporting children with hearing loss. The campaign connects directly to the show's storyline, following the hearing loss diagnosis of George, Peppa's younger brother, who begins wearing a hearing aid.
The initiative gained so much traction that the character landed the cover of the traditional magazine Runner's World, accompanied by the tagline "Run, Walk, Oink, Repeat". In the issue, Daddy Pig jokes about his training routine, claiming that jumping in muddy puddles is excellent cardiovascular exercise and revealing his plan to use a run-walk strategy to cross the finish line.
The story was highlighted by Radar Stemma, which covered the release of bib numbers and start corrals for registered London runners, while also sparking a wave of nostalgia for running publications, recalling historic titles such as Runner's World Brasil and Contra-Relógio magazine.
