Charitable Cause and Progress Across the Majors
The runner completed the race in support of Every Mother Counts, an organization dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother. Chicago marked the third distinct World Marathon Major on Chelsea's resume, joining her previous finishes in New York City and Boston.
Her history over the distance reflects steady athletic progress. Chelsea made her 26.2-mile debut at the New York City Marathon in 2021 with a time of 3:59:09, later lowering it to 3:44:22. Her personal best came at the Boston Marathon, where she clocked 3:40:52. With Chicago, she completed her second marathon within the same year.
Planning and Security Protocols
The presence of prominent public figures involves specific protocols coordinated with law enforcement agencies. In previous races, such as Boston, police officers ran alongside her for the entire course and received their finisher medals directly from Bill and Hillary Clinton.
To protect the runner's safety during the event, the live tracking and preliminary results system initially listed Chelsea under the pseudonym "Smith" before updating to her real name. In Chicago, she ran alongside Jen Coss under discreet security monitoring typical for high-profile figures at World Marathon Majors.
