Peu Guimarães: From Extreme Events to Bota Pra Correr
Entrepreneur and triathlete breaks down his career in outdoor sports production, from Rio 2016 to launching major race circuits.
Peu Guimarães joins Shubi Guimarães on XTREMMA Sports to discuss his career across endurance sports and business. The episode covers everything from adventure racing and Rio 2016 operations to founding the Bota Pra Correr circuit and the future of outdoor events.
In an interview on XTREMMA Sports hosted by Shubi Guimarães, entrepreneur and athlete Peu Guimarães reflects on his life and career. The conversation between siblings spans family roots, years of event production experience in Brazil and abroad, logistical challenges in remote environments, and the business vision that transformed the running event industry in the country.
Childhood, family dynamics, and early athletic experiences
The youngest of four siblings, Peu recalls an active childhood shaped by family trips and constant immersion in the outdoors. Growing up in a sports-driven household and practicing disciplines like swimming, water polo, and rugby laid his athletic foundation. Beyond family encouragement, joining CISV (Children's International Summer Villages) at age 11 broadened his worldview through multicultural camps in Sweden and Mongolia.
CISV journey, moving to Europe, and working in Barcelona's nightlife
His progression within CISV led Peu to work as a counselor and exchange organizer in Europe. In 2003, after backpacking across the continent, he settled in Barcelona, where he lived for four years. In Spain, he entered the nightlife industry, partnering in a production company that managed events across dozens of nightclubs and hosted exclusive parties for FC Barcelona soccer players before returning to Brazil.
From nightlife to sports and the challenges of the Pantanal World Championship
Back in Brazil, Peu gradually shifted from nightlife entertainment to sports event management, seeking to merge his production background with the spirit of endurance sports. The defining milestone of this phase was organizing the 2015 Adventure Racing World Championship in the Pantanal: an extreme 700 km operation across isolated terrain featuring floating hotel boats, the first-ever crossing of the Serra do Amolar, and daily television content production.
Hospitality management and behind the scenes at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games
The logistical expertise gained in extreme races qualified Peu to manage the hospitality and tourism program for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games through Sports World. Leading an operation that encompassed dozens of hotels, a cruise ship, meeting points, and over 35,000 corporate and VIP tickets, he tackled complex challenges behind the scenes at the Olympic venues.
Founding Icons, managing Olympic athletes, and the influencer market
Following the Rio Games, Peu founded Icons Agency, initially focusing on career management for Olympic athletes. The venture highlighted sharp contrasts in Brazil's sports sponsorship market, where brands often prioritize digital influencer engagement metrics over sustainable investment in high-performance athletes dedicated to rigorous training.
Creation, purpose, and behind the scenes of Bota Pra Correr
The turning point for Icons arrived with the creation of the Bota Pra Correr race circuit, developed in partnership with Olympikus. Designed to showcase Brazil through running, the project prioritizes authentic destinations, strict respect for local hospitality and infrastructure limits, and sustainability measures such as eliminating single-use cups while boosting local tourism and commerce.
The future of sports events and connecting with nature
Analyzing market shifts, Peu points to an increasing saturation of mass-participation races alongside growing demand for experience-driven events. For him, the surge in trail running and outdoor sports reflects a human need to disconnect from digital routines and achieve mindful presence, driven by the unpredictability and sensory challenges of natural terrain.
Dream projects: the ITR mountain running circuit and indoor triathlon
Among Icons' future goals are developing the ITR—a proprietary Brazilian trail running circuit focused on youth development and environmental conservation—and introducing indoor triathlon competitions to the country. Peu also shared his personal training journey ahead of his debut in individual road marathons.
