After competing in three Paralympic Games, Jenny Parinos sets her sights on Los Angeles 2028. The table tennis player reflects on lessons learned from Paris and the value of mental health support in managing goals and preventing burnout.

The road to the Paralympic Games requires consistency, long-term planning, and sharp emotional management. In an interview on the Stemma Sports podcast, table tennis player Jenny Parinos shared how she is mapping out her path toward Los Angeles 2028, which could mark her fourth appearance at the world's biggest sporting event.

Schedule and qualifying pathways

Before shifting full focus to the next Paralympic cycle, she is directing her immediate attention to the World Championships. Although this year's tournament does not offer direct qualification spots for Los Angeles, it serves as a key foundation for technical and competitive preparation.

The real shift toward the Paralympic race begins next year. Qualification can come through three different routes: winning gold at the Parapan American Games (which awards an automatic spot to the champion), earning a qualifying spot via the world ranking, or competing in the final world qualification tournament.

Managing expectations and lessons from Paris

Having earned medals in Rio and Tokyo, Jenny faced a different outcome in Paris when she finished off the podium. She recalled the initial sting of the result and the internal pressure that followed, questioning her own performance even after a grueling qualification run secured at the world tournament in Thailand.

Overcoming that frustration came directly through therapy and psychological support. Jenny highlights the importance of recognizing the achievement of simply reaching the Paralympics—a milestone only a select few athletes worldwide ever reach.

Heading into the next cycle, her approach is to treat winning a medal as the natural byproduct of strong preparation rather than a rigid obligation. By prioritizing performance and maintaining her mental health, the table tennis star aims to build a more balanced journey on the road to Los Angeles.
