Djenyfer Arnold Previews Ironman 70.3 Rio Start List
The triathlete analyzes the matchup with Pâmela Oliveira and Macarena Salazar, anticipating a high pace from the swim to the run.
Djenyfer Arnold broke down the women's pro field for Ironman 70.3 Rio de Janeiro. The triathlete detailed the expected dynamics in the swim and bike against Pâmela Oliveira and Macarena Salazar, setting her sights on a podium finish to close out her season.
With last-minute changes to the pro start list for Ironman 70.3 Rio de Janeiro—including the withdrawal of Vittoria Lopes—Djenyfer Arnold evaluated the competitive landscape and detailed how she sees the tactical battle unfolding in Rio. Speaking with the Stemma Sports team, the triathlete anticipated a fierce contest right from the opening meters in Copacabana.
Fast swim and a front pack
Among her top rivals, Djenyfer highlighted Chile's Macarena Salazar, with whom she has competed over the Olympic distance, and fellow Brazilian Pâmela Oliveira. In Djenyfer's view, their similar strengths in the opening discipline should set a fierce pace from the start.
"Her swim matches what I can do; we used to come out of the water very close together. And she rides well," Djenyfer said of Salazar. The Brazilian predicts that the three of them will form the leading pack straight out of the water, keeping the intensity high heading into the bike leg.
Decided on the run and focused on the podium
With expectations of a solid lead group on the bike, the strategy involves sustaining the effort on two wheels before deciding podium spots over the 21 km half marathon. Beyond competing for positions, Djenyfer's primary goal is to cross the finish line and wrap up her season with a strong result.
"My only visual is the finish podium. If there is no finish tape, that's fine, but I want to finish. I need to cross that line to head into my break happy," the athlete added.
