Productivity and Creativity: João Firmino's Routine

Vitacon's marketing director explains how morning habits, breaks, and WhatsApp management impact workflow.

João Henrique Firmino details his off-hours habits and his pursuit of work-life balance. In an interview, he discusses how downtime fosters creative ideas and addresses the challenges of corporate communication.

João Henrique Firmino, marketing director at Vitacon, spoke with Bruno Gimenes on Marketing - The Podcast about his personal routine, the methods he uses to maintain professional focus, and the importance of rest in sustaining creative capacity. While the episode explores the real estate developer's marketing strategy, this segment centers on Firmino's journey and his individual habits outside the office.

For Firmino, disconnecting from professional duties is a fundamental step in the work process itself. He notes that he strives for middle ground—valuing quality of life without compromising the quality of his technical delivery. The video above features his full account of these daily practices.

Breathing room and creative repertoire

Outside office hours, Firmino dedicates time to activities such as reading, watching movies, and observing human behavior. In his view, consuming varied content enriches the repertoire required to develop marketing campaigns and communication solutions.

He highlights that continuous overload hinders innovation: "marketing is closely tied to creativity, right? And creativity doesn't thrive in an environment where you have no room to breathe and think." Because of this, preserving free time serves as essential support for final project delivery.

Morning habits and ideas outside the office

Shifting his sleep schedule was another transformative factor for Firmino. About five years ago, he decided to sleep and wake up earlier, noticing superior cognitive performance during the early hours of the day.

Inspired by practices described in Steve Jobs's biography—such as walking meetings—Firmino finds that most of his insights occur away from his desk, whether during workouts or personal care routines. He also emphasizes managing anxiety to respect his team's off-hours: "I hold onto those thoughts and then reach out to the team during regular business hours."

WhatsApp's role in productivity and its boundaries

In today's corporate environment, Firmino views instant messaging apps as the primary channel for operational communication. In his routine, the platform has taken over functions previously reliant on multiple management tools and email.

Firmino points out that the tool "replaced email, in my opinion, and has replaced Trello for certain things—where you create a group right there and solve it on the spot—as well as Mamba in some cases." Despite the agility it offers for resolving urgent matters, he stresses the necessity of setting clear boundaries to avoid burnout and keep work separated from personal contacts.
