João Henrique Firmino, Marketing Director at Vitacon, broke down the practical differences between multichannel and omnichannel customer engagement strategies during an interview with Bruno Gimenes on Marketing - The Podcast. While the episode covers various facets of real estate marketing and brand management, this excerpt zeroes in on how companies should structure their presence across different touchpoints.
According to Firmino, conceptual confusion between the two terms stems from a narrow focus on commercial transactions. While multichannel strategies focus directly on conversion points, omnichannel integrates media, value perception, and continuous consumption: "Multichannel is very directly tied to sales channels, right? Sales channels. Whereas omnichannel is also heavily tied to media and consumption." In the video above, he explains in depth how advertising messages compete for visual and digital attention in real time.
Adapting Messaging and Funnel Stages
To execute an omnichannel approach, Firmino emphasizes that brands must fine-tune their messaging based on the medium where the user is engaged. The approach must adapt across social media, print, and out-of-home (OOH) formats, extending all the way to customer service channels such as WhatsApp, phone calls, and proprietary websites. The strategy guides every stage of decision-making: quick 15-second brand reminders or 5-second benefit snapshots at the top of the funnel, educational materials like e-books in the consideration stage, and direct, responsive channels at the point of purchase.
According to Firmino, this coordination guarantees consistency in both reputation building and deal closing: "So omnichannel plays a major role in brand reinforcement, but it also heavily dictates what someone will ultimately buy or consume, right?" When asked about the role of technology in this workflow, Firmino highlighted that automation cannot replace human insight: "We are a company that leverages automation across several steps of the consumer journey and purchasing process, but I never leave it on complete autopilot. I feel there needs to be someone looking at the data, adapting it, and using their intuition to grasp what really matters."
