For Ramos, maintaining fiscal discipline remains the cornerstone of sporting and institutional success.
Beyond hitting sales targets, the club faces R$ 312 million in short-term financial obligations due this year from installment-based transfer acquisitions, including deals for Carrascal, Samuel Lino, and Emerson Royal, according to reporting by UOL journalist Igor Siqueira. In Ramos's view, refusing to sell center-back João Victor to Parma for €10 million was a strategic misstep, as the fee would have settled the remaining transfer sales target.
Plata's departure and squad options
The sale of Gonçalo Plata to Dynamo Moscow brought €12 million into the club's coffers, after the Ecuadorian arrived in 2024 for approximately $9 million. According to Ramos, the transaction represented solid business, even though the winger played an essential tactical role with his defensive pressing. Wallace Yan's departure was likewise categorized as an excellent commercial opportunity given the youngster's limited recent playing time.
With Plata gone and officially sidelined for the derby against Botafogo, Ramos believes Carrascal is set to fill in on the right wing for now, despite performing best centrally or off the left flank. In the defensive sector, alongside João Victor, the squad relies on Léo Pereira, Léo Ortiz, and Danilo, while Vitão continues his recovery.
Registration deadlines and board decisions
The deadline to register players for the upcoming Copa Libertadores knockout tie against Independiente del Valle is Friday, September 4. For the Campeonato Brasileiro, the domestic transfer window and registration cutoff closes on September 11. Amid growing supporter anxiety, Ramos emphasizes that sporting director José Boto must act quickly to secure a reinforcement or communicate transparently if no further signings will be made.
