Chronomax study maps the reality of Brazilian runners
Chronomax published a comprehensive study based on actual results from nearly 12 million race finishes across Brazil. The survey challenges the misconception that most runners maintain blistering paces: the national average for 5K is 35:30 (a pace around 7:06 min/km), while the average 10K finish time sits around 1:02:00.
For the half marathon, participants posted an average time of 2:03:37, while the full marathon average reached 4:08:14. The study also highlighted regional speed leaders: Joinville topped the men's 5K (27-minute average), Chapecó stood out in the women's 5K (33-minute average), and Porto Alegre ranked as the fastest city in the men's marathon, averaging 3:49:00.
Valencia Marathon's deep competitive field
Renowned worldwide for its flat, fast course, the Valencia Marathon continues to raise the bar for sub-elite runners. A finish time of 2:36:00—which secures a podium spot or even an outright victory at many international races—was not fast enough in Valencia to break into the top 1,000 finishers.
To put that in perspective alongside top-1,000 cutoffs at other major events, the Disney Marathon closes its top 1,000 at 4:10:00, Sydney at 2:57:00, New York at 2:49:00, and Boston at 2:41:00, cementing the Spanish race as a premier global hub for raw speed.

Mizuno announced the qualifying standards for the Hyper Warp Challenge Brazil, a track event scheduled for March 1 at CEPEUSP in São Paulo featuring 50 athletes laced up in the Hyper Warp Pure. The entry standards required by the February 9 application deadline are strictly elite: sub-15:15 for men and sub-17:45 for women in the 5K; sub-31:30 (men) and sub-37:30 (women) in the 10K; and sub-1:09:00 (men) and sub-1:21:00 (women) in the half marathon.
