Miguel Hidalgo Eyes Training Block Ahead of Abu Dhabi
The triathlete plans weeks of altitude training and consistency to kick off the upcoming competitive season at peak form.
Following tough training weeks post-London, Miguel Hidalgo detailed his plans for the final stretch of the year. The triathlete is targeting an altitude training block ahead of the race in Abu Dhabi.
After enduring difficult weeks of preparation, Brazilian triathlete Miguel Hidalgo is already outlining his strategy for the end of the year and the start of the next cycle. In an appearance on the Stemma Sports channel—during an episode that also reviewed his season and race setbacks—the athlete emphasized the priority of rebuilding a solid training routine before lining up at an international start line again.
Consistency and altitude on the radar for Abu Dhabi
With the possibility of competing in a World Cup stage still under evaluation, Hidalgo revealed that his current preference is to prioritize preparation. The final calendar decision will be made in the coming days alongside his coach, Curtis. His main target on the horizon is the race in Abu Dhabi, scheduled seven weeks out and awarding points toward the following season's championship.
Hidalgo's goal is to put together six consecutive weeks of consistent training—including a period of altitude preparation—followed by a taper week. For the Brazilian, this uninterrupted block of work is crucial to rediscovering peak performance and launching the next season at a high competitive level.
Turning the corner after a discouraging stretch
The triathlete explained that the period following the London event was particularly draining, marked by subpar training sessions and the feeling of being unable to hit his standard physical form. Things began to shift about a month earlier, when the first positive signs started to resurface.
This gradual recovery allowed Hidalgo to finish 11th at the Karlovy Vary stage, a result he described as pulling a "rabbit out of a hat" given the previous low expectations. The performance restored his confidence to structure this final stretch of training and build consistency ahead of Abu Dhabi.
