The Nubank Ultravioleta IRONMAN 70.3 Brasília 2026 was the stage for an exclusive interview with athlete Jamil Bacar, marking his debut as a professional triathlete. Conducted by Fabio Bessa and Thiago Kawamura, the conversation covered the behind-the-scenes of his transition to professionalism, his intense preparation, and his expectations for the race. Jamil shared details about his routine, the impact of group training, and his future dreams in the sport.
Jamil Bacar's Journey to Professionalism
Jamil Bacar's entry into the professional triathlon circuit is a long-held and cherished project. Although he has previously competed professionally at Challenge Floripa, this year marks the consolidation of a plan that couldn't be realized in 2023. Now, with his definitive move to Balneário Camboriú about a month ago, Jamil has found the ideal environment for his athletic development.
High-Level Training and Competitive Spirit
Jamil's training routine has undergone a significant transformation. Before, he trained alone. Now, in Balneário Camboriú, he is part of a strong group, training alongside names like Enzo and Iago, and with the support of Palito. This group dynamic, though demanding, is fundamental for development. "To evolve, you have to take a beating," Jamil jokes, referring to the challenges that push him. The healthy competition in training is a motivating factor, where the desire to outperform a teammate is constant, but with the certainty that "once the horn blows, it's every man for himself" on race day. He recognizes areas for improvement in swimming and cycling, while in running, he aims to match his training partners.
Expectations for IRONMAN 70.3 Brasília
Jamil Bacar shows calmness and a clear mind for IRONMAN 70.3 Brasília. His preparation has been solid, giving him confidence. He has already started alongside most of the athletes present and prefers to approach the race as "just another one," without the pressure of a professional debut. His main focus is to give his best and aim for the highest possible placement. Jamil emphasizes that time is relative and depends on conditions like wind, prioritizing his individual performance. He is aware that there is still a long way to go to compete equally with the big names but aims to be "as close as possible and for as long as possible." Although he competed in the Brazilian Olympic Championship in Brasília in 2022, he notes that the IRONMAN 70.3 course is different, but the dry climate, similar to his hometown of Mogi Mirim, is not new to him.
From Swimmer to Professional Triathlete: A Life in Sport
Since the age of three or four, Jamil has been involved in sports, starting with swimming. Although he didn't excel as a swimmer, triathlon entered his life by chance when a coach brought him to an aquathlon race. His unexpected success in that discipline led him to continue, also influenced by his father, who always practiced triathlon. Jamil cannot imagine doing anything other than being an athlete. His main goal in his professional career is to discover his limits and see how far he can go, dreaming of competing in the full distance of an IRONMAN Brazil and fighting for the podium in the near future.
Fun Facts and the Human Side of the Athlete
Off the track and out of the water, Jamil also revealed a bit of his personality:
- Music for Training: Rock, with bands like System of a Down and Metallica, but also an admirer of MPB (Brazilian Popular Music), such as Tim Maia.
- Favorite Superhero: Iron Man (a cliché, but fitting for "Iron Man").
- Football: Not his passion; he identifies as a Corinthian due to paternal influence but was never a big fan.
- Favorite Food: A good burger and fries, a fast-food "classic."
- Longest Ride: He has cycled 230 km.
- Childhood Idol: Guga, from tennis, a sport he played as a child.
- Relationship with his Mother: Very close; he considers her his best friend. There's natural concern, especially during long rides, but mutual trust prevails after years of dedication to the sport.
Jamil Bacar's journey in professional triathlon is a testament to dedication and the pursuit of overcoming challenges. His debut at IRONMAN 70.3 Brasília is not just a race but the beginning of a new chapter in his career, driven by passion and the desire to discover his full potential.
