Fernando Toldi Sets Season Goals, Eyes Kona Qualification

Following a key victory in Aracaju, the triathlete kicks off his season in Curitiba, plans a camp in France, and targets Ironman Brazil.

Fernando Toldi opens his triathlon season at Ironman 70.3 Curitiba following a four-month break and his wedding. The athlete outlined his first-half schedule, featuring altitude training in Font Romeu and a bid for Kona qualification.

After an interval of nearly four months away from racing—a period during which he took two weeks of complete rest and got married—Fernando Toldi is back on the starting line at Nubank Ultravioleta Ironman 70.3 Curitiba. Having won Ironman 70.3 Aracaju at the end of last season, the Brazilian triathlete views the race in Paraná as his first benchmark of the year.

His strategy for the first half of the year prioritizes consistency and training volume over a crowded schedule. Toldi chose to race selectively during the opening months to concentrate his efforts on the first half's primary objective: Ironman Brazil in Florianópolis, where he will chase qualification for the Kona World Championship.

First-half schedule and training camp in Font Romeu

Following his opener in Curitiba, Toldi heads to Ironman 70.3 Lima in Peru, a race he will tackle alongside his wife. Next, the Brazilian travels to France for a three-week altitude training camp in Font Romeu, a strategic prep block before heading to Florianópolis.

The year's split follows the blueprint that worked last season: a more surgical first half with three races, making way for an intense second half where he plans to line up for nine to ten events.

Bike setup tweaks and race pace in Curitiba

For the 70.3 Curitiba course, Toldi made specific adjustments to his gearing. Accustomed to running a single 60T chainring on completely flat profiles, the triathlete opted for a 56/43 double chainring setup to manage the elevation changes of the Paraná route.

Looking at the competition in Curitiba, Toldi pointed to Miguel Hidalgo as the main favorite, citing his recent world vice-champion pedigree and strong training pace in the mountains. For Toldi, the main focus is turning recent weeks of hard training into solid execution while gathering real performance data for upcoming milestones.

Thriving in heat and second-half planning

The athlete also reflected on the significance of his victory in Aracaju, highlighting his strength and strong track record in extreme heat and high humidity—hallmarks of his wins at Ironman Malaysia and events in Ecuador.

For the season's closing stretch, Toldi plans another ambitious push: lining up for Ironman Cozumel followed shortly by defending his title at 70.3 Aracaju, aiming for a competitive late-season double.
