Intense Preparation and Training Volume

Enzo, born in 2004 and only 22 years old, joked about his "two-day" cycle, but soon revealed the seriousness of his preparation. For IRONMAN Brazil, he focused on an impressive running volume, with four weeks hitting over 100 km, reaching 126 km in the week before the race. Swimming was also a priority, with open-water training simulating race conditions.

"Perhaps the cycling volume wasn't the highest I've ever had, but for running, we did four weeks of over 100 km per week," Enzo highlighted, emphasizing the cycle's effectiveness. For him, the initial idea of just swimming and cycling was cut: the plan is to complete the race "with everything he's got."

Long-Distance Athlete Mindset

A striking characteristic of Enzo is his ability to endure pain for extended periods. He defines himself as an athlete who loves to train for several hours a day, preferring to feel a "muscle ache" to perform better. This discovery was crucial in his six years in triathlon.

"Sometimes I need to maintain a slightly higher intensity volume during the pre-race week, so I don't arrive too rested," explained Enzo, sharing his experience of having felt "sluggish" in races due to being overly rested. For the triathlete, the 8 hours of racing are "just another workday" and an opportunity to have fun doing what he loves. He also had the chance to train with Begal in Lanzarote, a period that made him feel very good during long Zone 2 workouts.

Race Strategy and Influences

Regarding strategy, Enzo plans an assertive race. Unlike past experiences where he felt dissatisfied for not being proactive, he intends to "be at the front, not just follow, but be present." He believes he is fully capable of this and that the race could feature a cycling split under 4 hours, a notable achievement in Floripa.

On the CPH team, Enzo benefits from the support and experience of names like Pâmela Oliveira, Igor Amorelli, and Bruna Mahn. He emphasizes that more than spoken advice, learning comes from the attitudes and experience of these athletes, who are role models for him, especially in long-distance races.

Quick Q&A: Dreams and Race Details

In a traditional quick Q&A, Enzo revealed more about himself:

  • World Cup Star: Dr. Rodrigo Lasmar, to "make the boy (Neymar)'s calf good as new."
  • First Race: November 2020, GP Restart in Penha, where he swam poorly and cycled without a power meter, but which marked the beginning of his journey.
  • Carbohydrate Intake: Almost 140g per hour on the bike and between 100-110g in the run, showing a robust nutritional plan.
  • Biggest Dream in Triathlon: To win IRONMAN Brazil at home and rank among the world's top athletes in Kona.
  • Finish Line Song: "Happy Song," a baby song his daughter Iemanjá enjoys, showing a personal and light touch.

Enzo Krauss proves himself to be a complete athlete, with a strong mindset, impeccable preparation, and great ambitions. His debut at full IRONMAN Brazil promises to be a spectacle of determination and strategy, a true example of how focus and passion can push an athlete beyond their limits. We eagerly await to see what he will do on Sunday!
