In an exclusive chat live from the Nubank Ultravioleta Ironman 70.3 Brasília, hosts Fabio Bessa and Thiago Kawamura spoke with professional triathlete Bruna Stolf. Enthusiastic and in great shape, Bruna shared her journey of overcoming adversity, the challenges faced in previous races, and her ambitious plans for the season, highlighting her preparation for Ironman Brazil.
Challenges Overcome and the Power of Resilience
The triathlete recalled challenging races, such as Ironman 70.3 Punta, where intense wind significantly impacted her cycling performance, breaking her for the run. Regarding the previous edition of Ironman 70.3 Brasília, Bruna highlighted the difficulties caused by the dry climate, which resulted in "bizarre fatigue" on the bike and the inability to complete the run. She attributed the outcome to the weather conditions, not a lack of training, as she had an excellent race in Lima weeks later.
Bruna also discussed a low period after Ironman Brazil, Kona, and Aracaju, marked by health issues, a DNF (Did Not Finish), weight gain, and a drop in self-esteem. "I would look at myself in the mirror and say, 'Man, I'm not this person,'" she confided, reflecting on the importance of her image and well-being.
Comeback and Plans for Ironman Brazil
Having overcome these challenges, Bruna celebrates her return to good form and ideal weight. Currently, she feels good, happy, and focused. "The Iron cycle is on," she stated. After securing an early spot, her main goal now is Ironman Brazil, for which she plans a training camp outside the country, aiming for the best possible preparation.
The year started on the right foot for the athlete, who saw the arrival of new sponsors and a flow of positive events, renewing her motivation and enthusiasm for the season. This phase reflects the resilience and adaptability essential in the life of a professional athlete.
The Life of a Professional Athlete: Privileges and Realities
Bruna emphasizes that an athlete's career is full of ups and downs. There were moments when she thought about giving up, but her passion for the sport always brought her back. She shared a reflection on the privilege of being able to make a living from sports, contrasting it with the routine of those who don't have that freedom. "What a privilege we have. Just doing this, not having to work on anything else," she said, highlighting her gratitude for doing what she loves.
