In an exclusive interview with Stemma Sports, triathlete Bruna Stolf reveals the details of her preparation for IRONMAN Brazil. She discusses her preference for high-volume races, the excitement of a strong start list, and her competition strategies. Bruna also shares insights into post-race recovery and her experience as an ambassador.
In an exclusive conversation with Fabio Bessa and Thiago Kawamura from Stemma Sports, directly from the Nubank Ultravioleta IRONMAN Brazil 2026, professional triathlete Bruna Stolf opened up about her preparation, expectations, and details of her journey in the sport. With intensity as her trademark, Stolf revealed the challenges and specificities of a training cycle for such a demanding race.
Intense Preparation and the Preference for Ironman
Bruna Stolf described her preparation as intense, highlighting the difficulty of having a 100% perfect cycle, something she experienced in her first Ironman races. For her, training volume is crucial. "I like volume; for me, my body adapts better to volume than to intensity," Stolf stated, revealing her clear preference for Ironman races over 70.3 events. The triathlete also expressed her satisfaction with the robust start list for the competition, a contrast to previous years where the number of participants was smaller, making the race more challenging and rewarding if she performs well.
The IRONMAN Brazil Course and Ideal Weather
With experience in previous editions of IRONMAN Brazil, Bruna shared valuable insights into the course. She described the swim as "smooth as a pool" if conditions are good, and the bike as "very fast," with few climbs. The run, she said, is "wonderful," with the crowd creating a "football stadium" atmosphere. Stolf advises athletes to enjoy the race and not try to change anything from what they've trained. Regarding the weather, Bruna, who has suffered in the heat in Kona, revealed her preference for cold. "My body prefers cold," she said, hoping for milder weather on race day to optimize her performance.
Race Strategies and Triathlon Dreams
For IRONMAN Brazil, Bruna Stolf has clear goals. Her main strategy is to achieve her best marathon in an Ironman, aiming for a "very good" run that, according to her training and tests, is within her reach. She also aims for a very strong swim and a well-executed bike leg. Asked about a slot for Kona, Bruna explained that she does not intend to go this year, as she has the 70.3 World Championship in Nice, and the cost logistics would be too high. She also addressed the difficulty of delivering a good marathon after 180 km of cycling, a particularity of Ironman, but emphasizes the importance of trusting her training. Interestingly, Stolf noticed that the recovery from an Ironman marathon tends to be faster than from a pure marathon, indicating that her body adapts better to running after cycling.
Beyond Competition: Ambassador and Advice
In addition to her career as a triathlete, Bruna Stolf also serves as an ambassador for Nubank Ultravioleta, the event's sponsor. She described the experience as "very cool," overcoming initial shyness and being happy to represent such an important race. Bruna also shared a fun behind-the-scenes recording experience, including several sessions in an ice bath. In a quick Q&A segment, Stolf recalled her first triathlon, the Heróis do Triatlo in Penha, in 2018. Her advice for those starting in triathlon is to keep going, even after initial frustrations, as the sport provides incredible experiences. She emphasized the importance of progressing gradually (sprint, Olympic) and not venturing into an Ironman without proper preparation. Regarding nutrition, Bruna revealed that she consumes 80 to 90 grams of carbohydrates per hour during the race. Her dream in triathlon is "to achieve a top 10 finish once in my life," but above all, to continue doing what she loves. To cross the finish line, her chosen song would be "Unstoppable" by Sia.
Bruna Stolf's journey to IRONMAN Brazil is a testament to her dedication and passion for triathlon, showing that perseverance and strategy are keys to success. Her story undoubtedly inspires athletes of all levels to pursue their own challenges and enjoy every moment of the race.
