Silvio Santos' Communication Lessons Behind SBT's Scenes

Fernando Henrique Ahuvia analyzes Senor Abravanel's impact on television and the internal culture at the network.

Fernando Henrique Ahuvia reflects on working alongside Silvio Santos behind the scenes at SBT and analyzes the host's communication style. He also describes the workplace atmosphere and daily routine at the network.

During a conversation with Bruno Gimenes on Marketing - The Podcast, Fernando Henrique Ahuvia discussed Silvio Santos' legacy in Brazilian television and the internal workplace culture at SBT. The segment is part of a broader podcast discussion on communication and journalism.

In the video above, Ahuvia recalls memorable moments of Silvio Santos behind the scenes at the network, highlighting the host's precision in transitioning between his entertainer persona and corporate leadership. Ahuvia cites his historic appearance on the show A Praça É Nossa as an example of this dynamic: "The most impressive thing was that interview with Silvio Santos on the park bench where he says, 'Here I am Silvio Santos.' And he delivers a masterclass in communication right there. 'Here I am Silvio Santos.' Then he takes off his glasses and says, 'Now here I am Mr. Abravanel, responsible for the families, responsible for SBT.'" According to Ahuvia, this transition demonstrated a unique ability to shift tone and messaging according to the required role.

Recounting his own experience at SBT, Ahuvia mentioned covering the 2022 Troféu Imprensa and the atmosphere surrounding the host's appearances during tapings and events like the Teleton. "There were few encounters, but there was always immense respect for him here, and everyone who spent more time with him says he was a fantastic person both professionally and humanly," Ahuvia stated.

For Ahuvia, Silvio Santos' cultural significance is comparable to icons like Pelé and Roberto Carlos, defining them as "irreplaceable, incomparable" figures who built lasting legacies in the country. Beyond the host's historical footprint, Ahuvia emphasizes the continuity of that environment in the network's daily operations: "SBT remains—it was and continues to be—a wonderful company to work for; the relationships, overall, the atmosphere here is very pleasant, very good."
