Fernando Henrique Ahuvia shares how he manages his communications routine at SBT and the difficulty of unplugging from real-time messaging. The PR professional discusses his personal interests, ranging from soccer and food reviews to his love of print media.

Fernando Henrique Ahuvia, who works in communications at SBT, spoke with Bruno Gimenes on Marketing - The Podcast about his personal routine, hobbies, and the challenges of unplugging outside of work hours. The full episode also covers his transition from newsrooms to public relations.

In the video above, Ahuvia recalls how his interest in sports began in childhood and how he balances the steady stream of instant messaging demands with everyday activities like going to the movies, reading print media, and dining out.

Roots in sports and a passion for soccer

His connection to soccer began through family influence before turning into a career path. Ahuvia explains that spending time with his cousin—a Corinthians fan who followed the Corinthians Democracy movement in the 1980s and took him to stadiums—sparked his passion for the sport.

Ahuvia comments on a common trait among those drawn to the field: "The journalist who wants to be a sports journalist is the guy who loves soccer but couldn't kick a ball—was a bit clumsy, a bit of a benchwarmer—yet was great at public speaking, great at writing, and ends up going down that path."

The challenge of unplugging in PR

The dynamics of media relations demand constant attention to one's phone. Ahuvia notes that tools like WhatsApp streamline daily workflow, but also create a sense of being on call around the clock.

Recalling a pre-pandemic trip in 2019 to Lençóis Maranhenses, Ahuvia described the experience of spending three days in a place with no cellular service: "The first day, the first morning, it was nerve-wracking—gosh, I won't know the news, what's happening, I won't send messages—and then it was the best thing ever." He highlights his ongoing search for similar destinations to get true, restful breaks.

Food culture and a preference for print

Outside the corporate environment, dining out has become one of Ahuvia's favorite pastimes. He often visits new restaurants, taking photos and posting reviews on Google: "I go to a restaurant I've never been to, that Instagram-ready guy, right? Taking pictures of every dish, going on Google—there's Google where you review the restaurant, where you search and see star ratings—so I'm the guy who writes reviews."

Beyond his interest in movies and theater, Ahuvia maintains the habit of reading print newspapers, books, and magazines. Bruno recalled buying the daily sports paper Lance! for R$ 1.99 at newsstands, to which Ahuvia reaffirmed his appreciation for physical formats and the tactile experience of turning printed pages.
