Marcos Braga: Bringing People Together in Advertising
In a conversation with Bruno Gimenes, the advertising executive explains how bringing groups together and building bridges became his career.
Marcos Braga reflects on his professional journey and explains how a knack for connecting people shaped his career in communications. He shares stories ranging from managing an amateur soccer team to going full-time with his own venture.
Marcos Braga, advertising executive and co-founder of Amigos do Mercado, sat down with Bruno Gimenes on Marketing - The Podcast to discuss his journey in communications and his passion for uniting communities and building bridges across the advertising industry.
A passion for bringing professionals together
When asked about his background before community projects took center stage, Braga noted that his career has always been intertwined with his habit of gathering people in various settings. He cited personal experiences, including organizing alumni lunches, trips with friends, and his tenure as president of the amateur soccer team Calangos—founded in 1997—where he served as president for 19 years before joining its board and advisory council.
For Braga, realizing this calling became clear after a coworker's remark: "She told me, 'Look, Marquinhos, you don't love soccer. You love organizing soccer, which is completely different from loving the sport itself.' I thought, 'Damn, that's true. I love bringing people together. I'm a lifelong people connector.'" He emphasizes that he has always viewed relationship-building as a two-way street, where introducing professionals creates value and business opportunities for both sides.
The transition to full-time focus
Having worked at agencies, media outlets of various sizes, and tech companies, Braga explained that his community work started alongside his corporate roles until it required his undivided attention. The initiative, now celebrating its 10th anniversary, became his primary venture five years ago, when he formally joined the business full-time.
According to Braga, financial sustainability is a natural byproduct of creating real value: "When it becomes meaningful first, becoming profitable is a natural next step. Sustaining itself happens organically." He highlights that committing to it full-time expanded the initiative's reach and presence across the industry.
The audio market and industry collaboration
In the video above, Braga and Bruno analyze the dynamics of the media ecosystem and the growing relevance of audio formats. Bruno highlighted his involvement in the IAB's initial audio verticals in 2020 and cited investment projections for the format through 2030, advocating for collaboration across media initiatives and citing shows like Papo de Amigo and M15.
