Nah Pinheiro: The Essence of Movement and Her Swimming Journey
Discover how Nah Pinheiro transformed challenges into inspiration, connecting sport and life in a unique trajectory.
In this episode of Natação Stemma, Nah Pinheiro shares her incredible journey in sports. From childhood swimming to ultramarathon runner, she reveals how she redefined movement in her life. This is a story of overcoming challenges, self-discovery, and reconnecting with her passion for sports, which led her to create the Coração Azul channel.
The Natação Stemma program welcomed the multifaceted Nah Pinheiro, a complete athlete and natural communicator, for an inspiring chat with hosts Samir Barel and Wanderley Santos. A swimmer, runner, triathlete, ultramarathoner, journalist, and writer, Nah Pinheiro shares her life journey in sports, from childhood to the creation of her Coração Azul channel, demonstrating how movement became the guiding thread of her existence and led her to profound personal and professional redefinition.
Swimming at Her Core: A Connection from Infancy
Nah Pinheiro reveals that her relationship with water began early, at 8 months old, "before she could walk," as she jokes. Swimming has always been the guiding thread of her life, present alongside other activities and sports. At 11, at Baby Barione, she was discovered by scouts and federated by Hebraica, where she developed under the guidance of coaches like Murilo and Ricardo Santos. Her dedication led her to train at the Swimming Hall of Fame in Fort Lauderdale and, later, at Paineiras, under the tutelage of André "Amendoim" and Vlad Veiga.
During an exchange program in Coral Springs, she trained with Michael Lohberg, coach of champion Fernando Cherer. However, what seemed like a promising path to a university scholarship in the US was interrupted by a comment from a coach at Paineiras. This episode, which occurred during her adolescence, when she was between 17 and 18 years old, profoundly impacted her self-perception and her joy in the water, leading her to stop competitive swimming for years and to doubt her potential.
The Turning Point: Leaving the Pool and Rediscovering Passion
The decision not to pursue a university scholarship at the University of Pennsylvania after the trauma in the pool forced her to recalculate her path. Nah Pinheiro sought new horizons, graduating in Social Communication and Graphic Design, and working in those fields. However, a period of emotional instability made her question her purpose. A public competition for an environmental inspector role, though random, re-ignited her discipline and will to study.
The turning point came during a trip to London, after being staff for a friend at an Ironman event and running the London Marathon. Standing before a blue door, a stranger complimented her, noticing her "beautiful smile" amidst her emotional fragility. This "breath of fresh air" was the catalyst for her reconnection with swimming and movement. Nah Pinheiro realized that her essence was movement and that she could monetize her knowledge and passion through communication.
Redefining Sport: Coração Azul and New Horizons
This is how Coração Azul, her YouTube channel, was born, where she shares technical and inspiring videos about swimming. Using her knowledge of communication and design, and learning to edit, Nah Pinheiro created a space to express her love for the water.
Her return to sports came through triathlon during the 2020 pandemic, and the transition to open water swimming in 2021, which she describes as having "a different vision, a different mindset." The experience, including a race at the Rock Mountain Games in Juquitiba, led her to overcome a panic attack in the water, teaching her to deal with fears and to persist.
Furthermore, her quest for self-knowledge led her on a 1,526 km 49-day journey along the Camino de Santiago (Portuguese, French, and English routes). This profound experience, which coincided with the day of the Boston Marathon for which she had qualified, inspired her book "Tudo é Caminho" (Everything is a Path), reinforcing the idea that life is a constant journey of learning and overcoming. Currently, Nah Pinheiro is completing her degree in Physical Education, with ambitious plans to work professionally in the world of sports and movement.
The Power of Words and Psychological Support in Sports
One of the conversation's highlights was the reflection on the impact of words, both positive and negative, on an athlete's life, especially during their formative years. Nah Pinheiro and hosts, Samir Barel and Wanderley Santos, discussed the importance of psychological support for young athletes to cope with performance pressure and self-expectations.
The story of Nah Pinheiro serves as a reminder that sport, more than the pursuit of results, is a powerful tool for self-knowledge and overcoming challenges. It is a journey that teaches us to respect our pace, face fears, and find joy in the simple act of movement.
The journey of Nah Pinheiro is a vibrant testament to how sport can be a transformative force. Her ability to reinvent herself, seek her essence, and share her knowledge through Coração Azul inspires athletes and enthusiasts to pursue their passions, with the certainty that "everything is a path" and that performance is often a consequence of joy and dedication.
