Mariana Borges Targets Bike Evolution at Ironman 70.3 SP
After adjusting her schedule and building a solid base in Floripa, the triathlete counts on the technical Marginal course.
In a press conference ahead of Ironman 70.3 São Paulo, Mariana Borges detailed her training strategy and season schedule. The athlete explained her choice of the São Paulo race and how her progress on the bike boosts her expectations.
Known for her strength on the bike, Mariana Borges arrives at the Nubank Ultravioleta IRONMAN 70.3 São Paulo following a strategic season plan. Initially, the blueprint designed with her coach, Eduardo, included racing in Rio de Janeiro and Florianópolis, but physical fatigue after competing in the Brazilian Cycling Championship—right on the heels of the full Ironman—demanded schedule adjustments.
To prioritize recovery and fit in a more efficient training block, the triathlete skipped the Rio race. Adding São Paulo to her calendar followed a positive experience the previous year, drawn by the dynamics of cycling on Marginal Pinheiros. According to Mariana, prior knowledge of the route makes a crucial difference on a course that, far from being just out-and-back straightaways, demands technical handling across multiple turns and constant accelerations.
Her recent preparation is backed by her performance in Florianópolis, where Mariana believes she delivered the best bike split of her career to date, combining raw speed with more energy-efficient riding. Building on that aerobic foundation, the final stretch of training introduced high-intensity sessions tailored to the shorter 70.3 distance, allowing the Santa Catarina native to arrive healthy and confident in pursuit of a top result.
