Franciane dos Santos: High-Altitude Strategy for NB 42K Porto Alegre
The athlete from Manaus reveals how high-altitude training in Colombia boosts her results and prepares her to break her personal best at the NB 42K Marathon.
Franciane dos Santos, champion of the Manaus Marathon and Paraná International Marathon, shares her unique training routine. She alternates between the heat of Manaus and the altitude of Paipa, Colombia, to optimize her performance and recovery. The athlete aims to achieve a Personal Best (PB) at the NB 42K Porto Alegre Marathon.
At the Stemma Sports studio, during the coverage of the NB 42K Porto Alegre Marathon, hosts Fabio Bessa and Thiago Kawamura welcomed athlete Franciane dos Santos. Coming off an impressive string of victories, including a three-time championship at the Manaus Marathon and a win at the Paraná International Marathon, Franciane shares the secrets behind her recovery and elite performance.
Strategic Training: Amazon Heat vs. Andean Altitude
Franciane, who lives in Manaus, faces the challenge of the region's hot climate during her preparation. For long runs, she wakes up at 2:30 AM, aiming to complete her training before the heat becomes unbearable. However, the key differentiator in her training is altitude. Franciane trains in Paipa, Colombia, at an altitude of approximately 2,500 meters, a cold location that allows for two training sessions a day and much faster recovery.
"I leave Manaus to go train there for a target race, like this one, which is a big race." - Franciane dos Santos
This strategy of training in cold and at altitude allows her to accumulate more volume and intensity, preparing her for target races with a solid foundation.
Elite Logistics and Family Support
Franciane's routine for the NB 42K Porto Alegre was intense, returning from Paipa to Manaus on Tuesday and then heading directly to Porto Alegre. This tight logistics is managed with the support of her husband and coach, Joare Rosa Silva, who accompanies her to training camps. Although he couldn't be present in Porto Alegre due to caring for the couple's 6-year-old daughter, their partnership and family support are crucial for the athlete.
Focus on PB and Respect for Competitors
For the NB 42K Porto Alegre Marathon, Franciane has a clear objective: to break her Personal Best (PB), which currently stands at 2h40m. Recognizing that the race in Porto Alegre is flat and fast, she sees an excellent opportunity to achieve this goal. The women's field is strong, with names like Mirella and Marina Richwinn, but Franciane expresses great respect and admiration for her competitors.
"I intend to run a good race, try to beat my PB which is 2:40, right? Since this is a fast and flat race, I'm going to give my best to try and lower my time and achieve my PB." - Franciane dos Santos
Franciane dos Santos' dedication to training, her strategic intelligence in utilizing altitude, and the unconditional support of her family are inspiring elements. Her journey demonstrates the passion and discipline required to compete at the highest level, always striving to surpass her own limits.
