In an exclusive interview during the Nubank Ultravioleta IRONMAN 70.3 Rio de Janeiro 2026 coverage, triathlete Enzo Krauss spoke with Thiago Kawamura and Diego Ferrero about his preparation, life as a father, and the race's challenges. Fatherhood and High-Performance Training

The arrival of his daughter Marina brought a new dynamic to Enzo Krauss's life, but surprisingly, it didn't slow down his training pace; on the contrary, his volume even increased. He emphasized the fundamental importance of his family support network, highlighting the essential role of his wife Luísa, who "holds down the fort" and allows Enzo to maintain his routine. His daughter's calmness and the help from parents, in-laws, and grandparents on weekends are crucial, especially for the longer, more challenging training sessions. Joking, Enzo mentioned that Marina, even as a baby, already swims more times a week than Diego Ferrero himself.

A First Half of Personal Records and Consistency

Enzo described the first half of the year as the best of his career, with extremely consistent results and a remarkable balance across disciplines. He emphasized the need for high training volume to maintain performance. Highlights include:

  • GP victory;
  • Third place at IRONMAN 70.3 Curitiba;
  • Fourth place in Brasília;
  • Victory in a Catarinense sprint race.

The Full IRONMAN served as a "test" or "training session," where Enzo completed intense Zone 4 sessions days before the race, even deceiving his peers. In terms of progress, he broke his own half marathon record, dropping from 1h12 to 1h10 in Balneário. His training strategy involved weeks with 19-20 hours of cycling and a running volume of 80 to 100 km, maintaining swimming with high volume and intensity. This combination allowed for a significant leap in his performance.

Challenges and Unique Aspects of IRONMAN 70.3 Rio de Janeiro

When discussing the Rio de Janeiro race, Enzo highlighted the unparalleled beauty of the landscape, with views of Christ the Redeemer during the cycling segment. However, the race is not without its challenges:

  • Swim: The ocean is rarely completely calm, requiring extra attention from athletes.
  • Bike: The course includes the "out and back" tunnels, which can "drain" the legs if the athlete doesn't manage their effort correctly. The difficulty of navigating among amateur athletes is a point of concern for professionals, who need to "shout" to clear a path.
  • Run: Considered by Enzo to be the best part of the race, the course is flat and features frequent hydration stations. The only "difficulty" mentioned is the transition from bike to run, with a small bridge that can cause a slight snag at the start.

Regarding the competition, Enzo mentioned names like Vilarinho and Logg as strong swimmers/cyclists, and the presence of Bisolam, indicating that the competition promises to be wide open, especially with the absence of Taccone, who "wreaked havoc" the previous year. The race, with its out-and-back sections on the bike and run, allows athletes to see their competitors and adjust their strategies.

For Enzo Krauss, the IRONMAN 70.3 Rio de Janeiro is another opportunity to demonstrate his consistency and evolution, always with the unconditional support of his family. We wish him an excellent race!
