Eduardo Siroto: Training and Challenges for IRONMAN 70.3 Rio
Professional triathlete Eduardo Siroto shares his journey, from a tumultuous IRONMAN Brazil to his expectations for Rio.
Eduardo Siroto reveals the behind-the-scenes story of his IRONMAN Brazil performance, which was marred by a bacterial infection. Now, with full focus, he prepares for IRONMAN 70.3 Rio de Janeiro and discusses his plans for the racing season.
In an exclusive interview with Fabio Bessa from Stemma Sports, professional triathlete Eduardo Siroto spoke candidly about his recent journey, the obstacles he's overcome, and his expectations for the Nubank Ultravioleta IRONMAN 70.3 Rio de Janeiro 2026. Siroto, who kicks off the event's coverage, is excited and focused for the challenge in the Marvelous City.
The Turnaround at IRONMAN Brazil
Eduardo Siroto recalled his participation in IRONMAN Brazil, which turned into a challenging experience due to a bacterial infection that hit him days before the race. With symptoms like vomiting, headache, and fever, the eve of the race was marked by intense discomfort. Despite trying to hide his condition and hoping he would improve, reality set in.
When attempting a light 20-minute jog the day before, Siroto felt abdominal pain and realized the severity of the situation. Nonetheless, he decided to start. The swim leg was difficult but completed in an acceptable time of 1h25. However, the cycling was the critical point. After a strong start, between 20 and 25 km, the infection took its toll, resulting in significant fluid loss and severely compromised performance. The tough decision to abandon the race was made at 45 km into the bike, turning the rest of the course into a light return and conversations with other athletes.
Expectations for IRONMAN 70.3 Rio de Janeiro
For the Nubank Ultravioleta IRONMAN 70.3 Rio de Janeiro 2026, Eduardo Siroto arrives with a more solid preparation and is happy with his condition. Although he considers the race a stage in the middle of his training cycle, he comes with the mindset to compete strongly and fight for a good result.
Siroto analyzed the starting grid, highlighting the strong competition and some names to watch closely:
- André Lopes, who has been showing excellent form.
- Enzo, who is consistently preparing.
- Iago, with the potential to surprise if he repeats his performance from Floripa.
- Cienovicz, known for his powerful swim-bike combo.
- A Portuguese athlete who stands out with an impressive run, with splits of 1h08 for the 70.3.
- Rei and Igor, experienced athletes who, if they get their run right, could be tough opponents to catch.
Eduardo anticipates a fierce competition, with many high-level athletes vying for the top positions.
Season Calendar and Objectives
Eduardo Siroto's main focus for this year is IRONMAN 70.3 Aracaju, in addition to the ambition of completing a Full Ironman. The São Paulo race, while important, is seen as a transition stage, where he intends to compete strongly but without it being the peak of his season's preparation.
For the Full Ironman challenge, Siroto is seeking sponsorship to make his trip to Florida in November feasible, as it's considered the ideal timing for him. As an alternative, he is considering Cozumel, but its proximity to the Aracaju race (only a one-week difference) presents a major logistical challenge, as he will not give up competing in Aracaju. The search for funds for the Florida trip is a priority right now.
Eduardo Siroto concludes with a valuable tip for all IRONMAN 70.3 Rio participants: enjoy every moment of the race. He encourages admiring the beauty of Rio de Janeiro, both in the swim, bike, and run, reminding everyone that it's a privilege to compete in such a spectacular city. Good luck to all!
