Djenyfer Arnold Reflects on Travel and Season's Lessons

After a strong start through June, the triathlete cites heavy travel demands and plans a leaner race schedule next year.

In an interview with Stemma Sports, Djenyfer Arnold shared an honest reflection on her triathlon season. The Brazilian athlete discussed how constant travel disrupted her training routine and explained her decision to race at her own pace in the next cycle.

Maintaining consistency throughout a competitive year is one of the greatest challenges in elite triathlon. Speaking to Stemma Sports ahead of Ironman 70.3 Florianópolis, Djenyfer Arnold offered a candid evaluation of her season, highlighting the stark contrast between a solid first half and the obstacles she faced later in the year.

According to Arnold, the first half of the season went exceptionally well through June, powered by a robust foundation built during her preparation for the Brasília event. However, a relentless series of domestic and international trips took its toll: with constant travel, she was unable to sustain the ideal training volume and quality.

Technical Toll and Mental Fatigue

The disrupted training schedule directly impacted the triathlete's race results and self-confidence. Underwhelming performances at the Rio World Cup and an event in Italy triggered a draining mental cycle, particularly hurting her swimming, which struggled for consistency in subsequent races.

Looking back at recent seasons, Arnold noticed a recurring pattern of starting strong early in the year before experiencing a performance drop in the second half. For next season, she plans to adjust her approach by being more selective with competitions and trimming her race schedule, prioritizing recovery and mental well-being over external expectations.

The accumulated fatigue weighed heavily earlier in race week in Santa Catarina, when the triathlete admitted she considered not traveling at all. However, arriving in Jurerê proved to be a turning point, restoring her motivation to toe the start line and close out the block with renewed energy.
