Fábio Hossaki: From Personal Passion to Digital Leadership in Cycling

The journey of Fábio Hossaki, a physical educator, with cycling began as a simple means of transport in childhood. After a decade-long hiatus from riding, an unexpected gesture – a student gifting him a high-end bicycle – reignited his passion and propelled him back into the world of two wheels. This moment marked a turning point, transforming cycling from a hobby into a lifestyle and, subsequently, a career.

The Transition and Knowledge Sharing

The decision to turn his passion into a profession wasn't immediate. Fábio, already experienced as a personal trainer, hesitated to professionalize cycling, fearing that the obligation would diminish the pleasure. However, he soon discovered that the best way to master content is when you have to teach it. This premise led him to deepen his studies, seeking knowledge from international sources and developing his own methodology, realizing the superficiality of information available in Brazil at the time. His cycling consultancy was born in 2018, and since then, his passion and engagement have only grown.

Venturing into Digital and Breaking Paradigms

Fábio Hossaki, who describes himself as an "unlikely candidate" in the digital universe because he wasn't a professional athlete or "Instagrammable," bet on digital media as his main tool for disseminating knowledge. This strategy solidified his position as a reference in Brazilian cycling, although it initially exposed him to criticism and "cancellations." He was one of the pioneers in Brazil to advocate for strength training for cyclists, a belief that was previously met with skepticism. His conviction was clear: cyclists need strength to ride well.

His motivation is genuine: "The bicycle changed my life for the much better. If it's up to me, I will make more people desire to cycle." He views the sport as a path to the best version of oneself, not just as a competition. The phrase "it's not about getting there, it's about who you become along the way" summarizes his philosophy, highlighting the journey and the process of personal evolution.

César Rodrigo: From Brute Strength to Nutritional Entrepreneurship in Cycling

César Rodrigo's journey is a vivid example of transformation. With a background in bodybuilding, where he weighed 104 kg and competed in powerlifting, he found cycling to be an alternative to the "cardio" he disliked in running. The sport quickly captivated him, but his bodybuilder physique presented challenges, especially on climbs. The weight change to 80 kg was a testament to his dedication and adaptation.

His evolution in cycling gained crucial momentum when training with Fábio Hossaki. Fábio's experience with larger athletes was fundamental for César, who learned to use his strength to his advantage and develop pedaling efficiency. In just three years, César immersed himself in the world of mountain bike competitions, participating in dozens of races and even exploring duathlon. His injuries, such as a ruptured triceps tendon and adductor strain, are a reminder of the extremes he reaches in his pursuit of performance, even when his body demands a different pace.

Iron Labs: From Perception to Supplement Innovation

César's entrepreneurial vision, in partnership with his associate Thiago, culminated in the founding of Iron Labs. The idea stemmed from observing chronic nutritional deficiencies in many athletes and people. Initially, they considered a compounding pharmacy to serve specific clients, but the scale of the problem led them to dream bigger: a supplement industry focused on essential products for the health and performance of Brazilians.

Iron Labs stands out for its pursuit of in-depth knowledge, including international expertise, to formulate supplements that deliver results, always respecting Anvisa's regulations. The feedback from athletes, who exchange soft drinks for their hydration products during races, is the greatest proof that they are on the right track.

Cycling and Entrepreneurship: Lessons in Resilience

César Rodrigo draws a sharp parallel between cycling and entrepreneurship: both require the ability to "know how to handle falls." In entrepreneurship, just as on the bike, ups and downs are constant. Resilience, a solution-focused mindset rather than problem-focused, and adaptability are crucial to keep moving and not give up in the face of frustrations. "If you get frustrated once or twice, and you let that frustration take over, it's over," he emphasizes, highlighting that losses are more frequent than victories, but they cannot stop the journey.

The Bike as a Life Philosophy: Community, Purpose, and Continuous Movement

Fábio and César agree that, despite being an individual sport, cycling thrives in community. "Cyclist friendships are like instant noodles, ready in 3 minutes," a metaphor for the quick and deep connection the sport provides. This support network is vital, transforming the solitary "I" into a collaborative "we," where knowledge exchange and mutual encouragement are constant.

Balancing Performance and Pleasure

The discussion about "leisure rides" versus "performance rides" is central. Although the pursuit of performance and results is a driving force, both cyclists emphasize the importance of maintaining pleasure and fun as the essence. Citing Renan from the Pedal Place team, César reinforces: "The bike first has to be something pleasurable for you." Performance will come as a consequence, but the love for the act of pedaling is what ensures longevity in the sport.

Health as a Pillar and Life in Motion

When asked what they wouldn't give up, Fábio and César are categorical: health is the fundamental pillar. With it, freedom and time to enjoy life become possible. The lessons of resilience and adaptation learned in cycling — such as dealing with falls, mechanical problems, and competitive frustrations — are transferable to all areas of life, teaching persistence and problem-solving.

Fábio Hossaki synthesizes this philosophy: "Life is like riding a bicycle; to keep going, to maintain balance, you have to keep moving." The important thing is to keep the pedals turning, find your own "vibe" and purpose, and allow the bicycle to continue to be a transformative agent.

The conversation between Gisele Gasparotto, Fábio Hossaki, and César Rodrigo reveals that cycling is much more than a sport; it's a journey of self-discovery, overcoming challenges, and building legacies. Whether in the pursuit of personal performance, the sharing of knowledge, or the creation of businesses, the bicycle presents itself as a powerful vector of transformation, connecting people and inspiring the search for a fuller, more active life.
