Cleusa Uenaka: Viral Video After 1,000 Days of Running

The runner built over three years of daily consistency before reaching millions on social media.

With over 1.2 million followers, Cleusa Uenaka built her digital presence around daily training discipline. She reflects on the moment a mid-run video went viral after more than 1,000 consecutive days of running.

Cleusa Uenaka's journey on social media began without any ambition for fame, driven solely by a personal commitment to movement. Now boasting more than 1.2 million followers, she had already accumulated around 500 consecutive days of running when she decided to take on the challenge of recording daily Reels to overcome her fear of public speaking.

The public speaking challenge and the video routine

In the beginning, the process was simple and unpretentious. Cleusa would complete her route—which started at 1 km and gradually increased to 5 km—sit on a park bench, and record brief reflections. To structure her message, she pulled from notes taken during decades of seminars and lectures kept in notebooks and planners. Her posts were aimed at a small circle, initially averaging a modest 50 views.

Recording mid-run and the unexpected reach

The turning point came on day 1,094 of her daily training routine. Pressed for time between her run and meeting a sales client, Cleusa decided to record her message on the move, still sweating in her workout shirt. Her core question was: "How long has your life been delayed by decisions you haven't made?" Over the course of that day, views quickly skyrocketed from 5,000 to 10,000 and then 20,000, marking the start of her profile's massive growth.

Personal commitment and inspiration from her granddaughter

The persistence required to run every single day for over three years demanded resilience against fatigue and family skepticism regarding the need for such intense effort, even on holidays like Christmas. Her motivation never to give up was cemented after a conversation with her granddaughter, then three years old, who asked if her grandmother would take care of her when her parents grew old. Realizing that her granddaughter cherished her vitality—to play on the floor, jump rope, and swim—turned running into a definitive pact with her own longevity.
