AI and Reputation: CNN Brazil's Editorial Balance

Vanessa Gregoraci details weekly team training, human fact-checking, and the news outlet's presence within LLMs.

Vanessa Gregoraci explains how CNN Brazil integrates artificial intelligence into its workflow while maintaining rigorous reporting and human governance. The commercial director also explores how LLMs impact brand reputation and the role of journalism in validating automated search outputs.

Reputation and the Endorsement of Journalistic Authority

Vanessa Gregoraci, commercial director at CNN Brazil, spoke with Bruno Gimenes on Marketing - The Podcast about the connection between advancing artificial intelligence, investigative reporting, and long-term brand equity. In Gregoraci's view, the advertising market has leaned heavily into direct conversion strategies, frequently overlooking the importance of consistent institutional reputation over time.

For Gregoraci, newsroom credibility serves as an essential foundation for advertisers. "I think brands increasingly need the awareness to understand the reputational context, right? Because I believe there is a very strong push toward performance marketing and sales, but few remember that they must constantly drive reputation as well," the commercial director stated.

AI and Reputation: CNN Brazil's Editorial Balance

Editorial Governance and the Limits of Automation

Addressing the adoption of AI in media, Gregoraci points out that while the technology presents clear opportunities, it requires heightened caution in newsroom environments. At CNN Brazil, staff participate in continuous training to identify the boundaries of automated tools. "Every week we hold AI literacy sessions covering everything that can help us and everything that can get in our way," she explained.

The commercial director emphasizes that technology supports distribution and content repurposing, but cannot replace human reporting and creativity. "AI has been helping significantly more with video editing, creating clips for social media, and helping distribute information across platforms. But raw, unvarnished reporting is still produced inside our journalism hub," she noted.

To maintain rigorous reporting standards amid fast-moving digital trends, the newsroom relies on a structured verification process. According to Gregoraci, a dedicated triad of editors oversees content across CNN Brazil, the CNN Money channel, and the website to ensure continuous double-checking prior to publication.

Media Presence in LLMs and the for Brands Initiative

Beyond acting as operational support tools, large language models rely on journalistic reporting to inform the answers they deliver to users. Gregoraci notes that this creates a two-way dynamic between news organizations and technology platforms.

"We use artificial intelligence as a tool, but the tool also uses us to validate its answers," Gregoraci highlighted. In response to this trend, the network launched the for Brands initiative, designed to assist businesses with brand positioning and reputation management within answers generated by generative AI systems.
