Flamengo Could Earn Up to R$ 15M from the World Cup

FIFA compensation for players released to national teams helps cushion the financial blow of an early Copa do Brasil exit.

With nine players called up for the World Cup, Flamengo could collect between R$ 11 million and R$ 15.1 million in FIFA daily allowances. The payout helps offset the financial deficit resulting from an early elimination in the Copa do Brasil.

Flamengo stands to collect up to R$ 15.1 million in daily allowances paid by FIFA for releasing players to compete in the World Cup. In total, the club released nine players across four national teams: four for Brazil, three for Uruguay, one for Ecuador (Plata), and one for Colombia (Carrascal).

In the video above, Bernardo Ramos presents a detailed study by Professor Marcelo Muniz analyzing the financial impact of this revenue on the club's coffers. This windfall arrives at a crucial time for financial recovery, following an elimination against Vitória in the Copa do Brasil that cost the club R$ 30 million in unearned prize money—a setback Ramos described as inexcusable given the squad's investment.

Revenue Scenarios from FIFA Allowances

The study conducted by Professor Marcelo Muniz outlines three revenue scenarios based on national team performance in the tournament. In the pessimistic scenario, with all four national teams eliminated in the group stage, the club is still guaranteed R$ 11.3 million (R$ 5 million from Brazil, R$ 3.8 million from Uruguay, R$ 1.3 million from Colombia, and R$ 1.3 million from Ecuador).

In the realistic scenario, where teams advance by defeating lower-ranked FIFA opponents, the payout rises to R$ 13 million (R$ 6 million from Brazil, R$ 4 million from Uruguay, R$ 1.7 million from Ecuador, and R$ 1.5 million from Colombia). In the most optimistic scenario, should the national teams overcome higher-ranked opponents, revenue reaches R$ 15.1 million—roughly half the amount the club missed out on in the domestic cup.

Budget Targets and Transfer Market Moves

The FIFA funds are considered vital for financial health, especially in light of the club's target of reaching R$ 256 million in player sales for 2026. To date, Flamengo has generated R$ 47 million from transfers, representing less than 20% of its stated goal.

According to Ramos, strict financial governance remains the foundation for sporting success. While he does not anticipate marquee signings at this moment, the commentator notes that club management will need to remain active in the transfer market to fill squad gaps and meet the season's projected revenue goals.
