The Challenge of Violence and the Fight for Financial Autonomy
Data from Brazil is an alarm bell that cannot be ignored: every hour, a person with a disability suffers violence, and a shocking 71% of these victims are women. The 'Visible and Invisible' survey reveals a sad reality of high violence prevalence, which affects Black women even more cruelly. One of the biggest obstacles to overcoming these situations is financial dependence, which often prevents women from seeking a path to freedom and security. It is illustrative to observe that while 40% of women entrepreneurs start their businesses in search of an opportunity, an even larger number, 55%, do so out of necessity. This statistic underscores the urgency of projects that can break this cycle, promoting economic independence and female empowerment. Turma do Jiló, driven by the objectives of the UN 2030 Agenda, acts precisely in this gap, building bridges for a more welcoming and equitable society.
Women at the Top: Mentorship, Support, and Free Opportunities
Given this complex scenario, the Women at the Top project emerges as a beacon of hope and a concrete response. The result of a dedicated partnership between Turma do Jiló and SMPED (Municipal Secretariat for Persons with Disabilities), through a funding agreement, this program offers a fully free and online accessible empowerment journey. Participants will have access to a set of valuable resources, designed to strengthen their capacities and support network:
- Support Circles: Safe and empathetic spaces to share experiences, find solidarity, and strengthen community bonds.
- Networking: Strategic opportunities to expand your contact network, exchange experiences, and create fruitful collaborations.
- Financial Education Mentorship: Practical tools and essential knowledge to manage your finances, plan for the future, and build economic security.
- Entrepreneurship Mentorship: Specialized guidance to transform ideas into concrete projects, developing skills and business strategies.
This program has been carefully designed for diverse women who seek not only to rebuild their lives but also to strengthen their voice, their presence in society, and, fundamentally, their financial autonomy.
Who Can Participate and Transform Reality?
To ensure that support reaches the hands and minds that need it most, the Women at the Top project establishes clear and focused participation criteria. You are invited to register — or to nominate a woman who fits the profile — if you:
- Reside in the city of São Paulo (this is a mandatory requirement for program participation).
- Identify as a person with a disability.
- Have experienced, at some point, a situation of violence.
- Are a mother or primary caregiver of a person with a disability.
