Technology Shaping Gen Z

When it comes to Gen Z's relationship with technology in 2035, the strongest prediction is the rise of Augmented Reality (AR). Studies indicate that the AR market could reach $97 billion by 2028, and Gen Z is already one of the generations that uses it the most, followed by the future Gen Alpha. While brain implants (like those from Elon Musk's Neuralink) and teleportation may seem like science fiction scenarios, AR is an expanding reality, promising to transform daily interaction with the digital world.

The Future of Work for Millennials

For Millennials, the year 2040 promises a revolution in how they work. The winning prediction points to a 4-hour workday. Reports from the World Economic Forum suggest that advancements in automation and artificial intelligence could reduce working hours, a trend already successfully tested in countries like Iceland. While the Metaverse and AI bosses are possibilities under debate, the pursuit of greater flexibility and quality of life in work seems to be the most likely path for this generation.

Retirement Reimagined for Baby Boomers

How will Baby Boomers enjoy retirement in 2045? The most surprising, and correct, answer is space travel. Companies like SpaceX, Blue Origin, and Virgin Galactic are making space tourism a reality, projecting a multi-billion dollar market. While restricted to the financially privileged, many Baby Boomers may have the chance to experience space. Other options, such as digital paradises in virtual reality or sustainable farms, were also considered, reflecting a growing interest in well-being and sustainability.

Beyond Predictions: Complementary Trends

To complement the predictions, some additional trends were highlighted:

  • Millennials and Remote Work: After the pandemic, 53% of Millennials prefer remote or hybrid work models, reinforcing adaptability and the search for flexibility in the professional environment.
  • Baby Boomers and Longevity: With increased life expectancy, many Baby Boomers are redefining retirement, seeking second careers or exploring hobbies with a positive impact, according to the Harvard Business Review.
  • Gen Z and Sustainability: This generation demonstrates a strong environmental commitment, with 73% willing to pay more for sustainable products, shaping the future with their consumer choices and values.

Turma do Jiló's discussions show us that the future is constantly being built, shaped by the technologies, expectations, and values of each generation. Reflecting on these trends is essential for us to build a more inclusive society, prepared for the challenges and opportunities to come. Which of these predictions surprised you the most?
