The city of Santana de Parnaíba, in São Paulo, celebrates a milestone in inclusive education with the inauguration of its first multisensory room in the public school system. Multisensory Room: A Space for Discovery and Learning

The new multisensory room is an environment carefully designed with colors, shapes, sizes, and various activities aimed at stimulating the five senses: hearing, smell, touch, taste, and sight. Unlike existing multifunctional rooms, which focus on specialized educational services with adapted games, this new space delves deeper into sensory stimulation.

This is a significant advance, because although similar rooms exist in special schools, this is the first to be implemented in a regular public school. The goal is for every student, regardless of their disability, to be able to develop their potential through sensory exploration.

The design of this room was conceived to be replicable. Turma do Jiló provides the blueprints and concept to other interested institutions, aiming for more children and schools to benefit from this innovative methodology.

Turma do Jiló: An NGO for Full Inclusion

Turma do Jiló is a non-profit association founded in 2015, dedicated to promoting inclusive education in Brazilian public schools. Its primary objective is somewhat paradoxical: to cease to exist. This ambitious goal reflects the NGO's vision that, in an ideal future, inclusion will not need to be "taught" as it will already be an intrinsic reality of society.

Until then, the organization faces the challenge of building bridges for a welcoming and just society, working on various fronts of diversity, such as Gender Equality, Race and Ethnicity, and Mental Health, guided by the UN 2030 Agenda.

Teacher Training: The Heart of Inclusion

A fundamental pillar of Turma do Jiló's work is teacher training. The NGO accompanies educators throughout the school year, teaching inclusive practices for all types of disabilities and school needs. At the end of the year, teachers demonstrate how they adapted their lessons to make them truly inclusive.

This training goes beyond technical skills; it addresses the acceptance and perspective of the professional regarding diversity. "Those of us who work with students with disabilities quickly begin to develop an eye for diversity, recognizing that truly one student is different from another, one person is different from another," emphasizes Carol Ramos. Recognizing and valuing human differences makes the educational process and relationships much easier and richer.

The inauguration of the multisensory room in Santana de Parnaíba is more than a physical space; it is a symbol of the advancement of inclusive education in Brazil. With Turma do Jiló's vision and the engagement of educators, we are building a future where "no one is left behind." It is an invitation to reflect on how small, significant actions can generate positive changes and transform the school and social lives of thousands of children.
