Discover how aluminum can tabs are transformed into adapted wheelchairs for children with disabilities.
Turma do Jiló, through its Lacre Essa Ideia project, transforms aluminum can tabs into adapted wheelchairs for children with disabilities. This initiative benefits public school children, providing increased accessibility and dignity. Discover how your donation can make a difference.
Did you know that a simple gesture can completely change a child's life? Turma do Jiló, a non-profit organization focused on Inclusive Education and Diversity, developed the Lacre Essa Ideia project to transform aluminum can tabs into adapted wheelchairs. This initiative not only promotes inclusion but also builds a more welcoming and just future for many Brazilian children.
Lacre Essa Ideia: A Chain of Solidarity
The Lacre Essa Ideia project emerged from the urgent need for accessibility for children and young people with disabilities attending public schools. Many families cannot afford to acquire a wheelchair with ideal dimensions adapted to a child's growth. This is where Turma do Jiló steps in, offering this vital solution and ensuring no one is left behind. It's a true inclusive ecosystem in action, focused on building bridges and opportunities.
How Your Tabs Become Adapted Wheelchairs
The process is simpler than it seems, and transparency is key. First, aluminum can tabs are collected at strategic points (which are listed in the video description and on our website). To acquire one wheelchair, approximately 500 2-liter PET bottles full of tabs are needed, on average. Once collected, this quantity is sent to partner recyclers.
With the financial resources generated from the sale of the tabs, Turma do Jiló can purchase customized wheelchairs, which are essential for the children's development and comfort. After purchase, the wheelchairs are delivered to the children on our waiting list, ready to transform their lives.
The Transformative Impact on Children's Lives
An adapted wheelchair is much more than a simple mobility device; it represents dignity, autonomy, and inclusion. For these children, it means the ability to attend school more comfortably, participate in social activities, play, and live a full childhood. The project aligns with the principles of the UN 2030 Agenda, promoting the pursuit of a more egalitarian and accessible society where inclusive education is the foundation for development.
Every donated tab is a step towards a more just world with more opportunities. If you want to make a difference and help Turma do Jiló continue this essential work, collect your tabs and find one of our collection points. Your small action can create a huge impact in someone's life, building a society where inclusion is a priority and the smile of every child is our greatest reward. Join us!
