From a turbulent swim to running on the limit
The race dynamics proved aggressive right from the opening meters. Despite a strong start in the water, Maria endured intense physical contact within the swim pack, exiting the water with visible marks on her face. The bike leg served to manage her energy and position for transition, saving her legs for her strongest discipline: the run.
Over the final 10 km, the Portuguese athlete maintained a fierce pace in the 34-minute range, running shoulder to shoulder with experienced circuit regulars such as American Taylor Spivey.
