Swim Struggles and Dropped on the Bike Climb
The start looked promising until the approach to the first buoy, where the intense jostling in the pack took a heavy toll. Arnold recounted being pushed underwater during the fierce battle for position, failing to surface for air on two consecutive attempts and swallowing water in the process. The incident disrupted her early rhythm and left her chasing the lead group out of the water.
In an effort to recover, the Brazilian pushed hard on the opening lap of the bike leg to bridge the gap to the chase pack. However, that initial surge took its toll on the course's climb, where she was eventually dropped. Across the eight bike laps, the race turned into a grueling mental battle as she fought the discouragement of knowing a top finish was out of reach.
Giving It All on the Run and Eyeing the Olympic Race
Despite the fatigue, the transition to the run sparked a mindset shift to ensure she finished the race. Arnold gained back positions on the foot leg, pushing as hard as possible until crossing the finish line. According to the athlete, dropping out would have left a far more bitter taste than fighting all the way to the end.
With no time to dwell on the result, the triathlete is already looking ahead to the next stop on the international calendar. With Olympic qualification underway, her focus shifts immediately to the World Triathlon Cup event in Rome, Italy, aiming to regain competitive momentum the following week.
