During the World Triathlon Championship Finals in Pontevedra, Spain, the Brazilian Triathlon Confederation (CBTri) rolled out a series of initiatives to support both elite triathletes and age-group competitors. Fielding the fifth-largest delegation at the event, Brazil established a solid support structure to assist amateur and professional athletes on Spanish soil.
Support structure and elevating amateur categories
One of CBTri's major highlights at the event was the creation of a dedicated support hub for Brazilian athletes. Set up in a motorhome, Casa Brasil served as a physical base for logistical, technical, and athlete care services. In addition to official team kits provided to all squad members, the confederation offered bike mechanic services and practical race-week guidance from experienced athletes such as Marcos Onório.
According to confederation president Sandro Bernardoni, the goal is to increasingly professionalize the experience of athletes traveling abroad to represent the country. The executive emphasized that the development of regional circuits and the Brazilian National Championships serves as the gateway for age-groupers to qualify for World Triathlon championship events, aiming to expand Brazil's presence beyond the fifth-largest delegation at upcoming events, such as the Hamburg stage.
Focus on grassroots and future Olympic cycles
Beyond supporting the amateur community, the confederation remains firmly focused on elite results and talent development. Bernardoni explained that sporting plans already encompass the Junior and U23 categories, targeting not only the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games but also the 2032 and 2036 Olympic cycles.
The technical staff has been bolstered with specialists dedicated to both high performance and paratriathlon. The objective is to maintain constant alignment among athletes, regional federations, and the technical committee to strengthen Brazil's presence across the international racing calendar.
