Kelly Gusmão on Challenges for Women in Finance
Warren co-founder discusses ambition, sexism in the financial sector, and the myth of having to do it all.
In a conversation on Donas da Voz, Kelly Gusmão shares her career journey in the financial markets, addressing the lack of female role models, confronting sexism, and the importance of owning one's ambition.
Historically dominated by men, the financial market still exhibits low female representation. Warren Investimentos co-founder and board member Kelly Gusmão points out that the absence of female role models early in her journey was one of the first obstacles she had to overcome across her more than 15-year career.
Ambition and financial independence without taboo
The pursuit of financial independence was the starting point for Kelly, who always recognized two defining traits in herself for working in the industry: ambition and a drive for making money. Structural challenges and the wonder woman trap
In addition to dealing with sexist and disrespectful behavior in the corporate environment, the executive highlights the impact of socially encouraged rivalry among women themselves. To stay focused on the long term, Kelly emphasizes the need to deconstruct the ego—avoiding getting shaken by criticism or dazzled by praise—and stresses that the demand to be a "wonder woman" who handles everything is a myth that needs to be dismantled.
