Tennis: Truly an Elite Sport?
Many people directly associate tennis with the elite, but Patrícia Medrado strongly disagrees with this view. For her, the perception of exclusivity is more a political and management issue than an intrinsic characteristic of the sport. The main factor limiting access is the need to be a member of a club or pay for court rental at a facility, which truly restricts participation.
Democratizing Access to Tennis
The tennis player emphasizes that tennis can be played by everyone. The reality could be very different if education departments showed more interest in introducing the sport in schools, or if more public courts had proper markings. Patrícia mentions that the goal of her institute is precisely to promote this democratization, showing that tennis doesn't have to be a privilege for a few, unlike sports like Formula 1, which require an extremely high initial investment.
Patrícia Medrado's words invite us to rethink access to sports and seek solutions so that activities like tennis, with their numerous benefits, reach an ever-wider audience, empowering more women and transforming realities.
