Invisible Barriers and Lack of Recognition

Dani Rudz describes the complexity of being a Black woman and a plus-size woman in the corporate world. She explains that various intersections and identity markers create barriers. Despite having reached C-Level and always holding positions of trust, the ultimate recognition and decision-making power often remained with men. This reality prevented her authority from being fully validated; she acted in these roles but without due recognition.

Explicit Prejudice and Body Shaming at Work

Beyond the lack of recognition, Dani faced humiliations and direct discriminatory comments. She recalls a superior who forbade her from attending an event she herself organized, justifying it with: “you’re fat, right? It doesn’t look good… in the health sector, you won’t represent us well.” Another shocking phrase that echoes is the question: “You can’t manage your weight, so how can you manage a team?” Such absurdities demonstrate the extent of prejudice and fatphobia that permeate the workplace.

Dani Rudz’s journey is a testament to the fight against structural racism and fatphobia in the job market. Her story, shared on Donas da Voz, reinforces the importance of sisterhood and female empowerment so that all women can break down barriers, achieve their goals, and be fully recognized for their essence and competence.
