Thiago Almada Nears Flamengo Move; De La Cruz and Lino to Stay
Talks advance for the Argentine midfielder while the board rules out loans or swap deals involving key squad members.
Flamengo is closing in on a permanent deal to sign Thiago Almada. Meanwhile, the club has rejected a loan bid from Peñarol for De La Cruz and ruled out including Samuel Lino in negotiations with Atlético de Madrid.
Flamengo is edging closer to finalizing the signing of Argentine midfielder Thiago Almada. The negotiations, which have unfolded slowly much like the pursuit of Lucas Paquetá from the Premier League, are heading toward a positive outcome for the Rubro-Negro board.
Progress on Thiago Almada
In the video above, Bernardo Ramos analyzes the latest transfer market developments and explains that River Plate has already pulled out of the race for the player. The Argentine club's exit was signaled by the signing of 31-year-old forward Correa for $15 million, who shares the same agent as Almada, Giménez. Consequently, only Flamengo remains actively in talks, keeping an eye out only for potential bids from European football. The proposed deal entails purchasing 50% of the player's economic rights along with a five-year contract, with Almada projected to slot into Giorgian De Arrascaeta's role.
De La Cruz's Situation and Peñarol
Regarding De La Cruz, reporting by journalist Raíssa Simplício pointed to interest from Peñarol in landing the midfielder on a free loan. However, Bernardo emphasizes that Flamengo will not accept such terms. Despite the player's affinity for the Uruguayan club, De La Cruz is under contract until 2028, and the board has no intention of letting him leave for free, especially since the Montevideo outfit lacks the financial resources to fund a permanent transfer.
Samuel Lino and the AS Report
Lastly, a report published by Spanish newspaper AS suggested that Atlético de Madrid had requested the inclusion of Samuel Lino as a makeweight to sanction Thiago Almada's exit. According to Bernardo Ramos, the rumor holds no weight: Flamengo has no intention of letting Samuel Lino go, as he is currently in fine form for the team—having recently found the net against São Paulo in a play that was disallowed for an offside on Wallace Yan. The forward will not be used as a bargaining chip in talks with the Spanish club.
