Plata Close to Leaving Flamengo for Dynamo Moscow

Talks with the Russian club advance as Flamengo targets Luiz Henrique to bolster its attack.

Flamengo and Dynamo Moscow are closing in on a financial agreement for Gonzalo Plata. Releasing funds from the deal is essential for the club to pursue Zenit winger Luiz Henrique.

Winger Gonzalo Plata is on the verge of leaving Flamengo. According to initial reporting by Venê Casagrande and confirmed by Bernardo Ramos, the Rio de Janeiro club and Dynamo Moscow have reached an agreement on the financial terms, leaving only the payment structure to be finalized to seal the transfer.

Flamengo demands payment either upfront or in up to two installments within a short window after signing, while the Russian side is attempting to spread payments over a longer term. In the video above, Bernardo Ramos provides context on the negotiations and projects the immediate impact of Plata's departure on Flamengo's squad construction.

Attacking replacement and the Luiz Henrique situation

Flamengo's urgency to secure the funds aims to enable the immediate signing of a replacement. The top priority is Luiz Henrique, a right winger currently at Zenit who previously played for Fluminense, Botafogo, and Real Betis. The Russian club is asking €35 million for the player, while Flamengo proposed €30 million in installments plus €5 million in performance-related add-ons. The winger was on the bench during the derby against Spartak Moscow, and his representatives have been pushing for a deal. Ramos notes that signing Luiz Henrique would significantly raise the attack's technical quality and decisive edge on the right flank, an area where alternative options such as Luiz Araújo, Loran, or Jorge Carrascal playing out of position face limitations.

Budget management under BAP's presidency

Any incoming move, however, hinges on meeting strict financial targets. Flamengo must generate 256 million Brazilian reais in player sales to achieve its budgeted revenue goal. Ramos emphasizes that the current board under president BAP remains firmly committed to fiscal discipline and will avoid reckless spending—contrasting with the heavy investments made in the second half of 2024 under Rodolfo Landim, a period that included buying the Gasômetro stadium land for around 140 million reais and signing Plata for $9 million alongside Charlie Alcaraz.

As a result, signing Luiz Henrique is considered unfeasible if Plata's sale to Russian soccer is not completed under Flamengo's required terms. Reinforcing the right wing is seen as urgent given the demanding upcoming schedule, which includes the Brazilian Championship and a Copa Libertadores clash against Independiente del Valle—a side riding a 16-match domestic winning streak that also defeated Flamengo in the 2023 Recopa Sudamericana at the Maracanã.
