Flamengo Sets Transfer Terms for Dynamo Moscow Over Plata

The Brazilian club demands upfront payment or two short installments to fund an immediate replacement.

Flamengo is negotiating the sale of Gonzalo Plata to Dynamo Moscow but insists on upfront payment or two quick installments to secure market liquidity. The club's board aims to raise immediate funds to sign a replacement for the squad.

Flamengo has set a clear condition to advance talks on selling Gonzalo Plata to Dynamo Moscow. The Russian top-flight club is keen on the 25-year-old Ecuadorian winger, who welcomes the potential move. However, the Rubro-Negro board wants the full transfer fee paid upfront or split into at most two installments, with the second due shortly after the first.

The need for immediate liquidity is driven by both sporting and financial factors: the necessity to fill the vacancy left by the player. In the video above, Bernardo Ramos analyzes the negotiation details and the implications of the deal for the club's transfer market moves.

Deal terms and search for reinforcements

Gonzalo Plata cost Flamengo $9 million under previous club management and could now be sold for over €12 million. According to Bernardo, this fee represents an excellent piece of business for the club, given that the attacker has not lived up to fan expectations and lacks a market in Europe's top leagues, such as England, Germany, Italy, France, or Portugal.

Although negotiations are not yet at an advanced stage, the board understands that his departure will require swift action. Plata is a starter in Leonardo Jardim's squad, and the current roster lacks undisputed alternatives on the wing. In Bernardo's view, Luiz Araújo is a predictable option, while Carrascal performs better centrally or on the left flank, where he directly competes with Arrascaeta. In this scenario, funds from the sale would pave the way for potential arrivals, such as Luiz Henrique, who has expressed a desire to leave Zenit.

Squad management and fringe players

The pursuit of funds also reflects recent struggles in offloading and maximizing high-cost assets. Everton Cebolinha, signed for €16 million and out of the coaching staff's plans, saw a transfer to Krasnodar collapse and is on track to leave without financial return due to his high wages.

The squad is also dealing with situations regarding other expensive players: De La Cruz, signed from River Plate for $16 million paid upfront, has suffered recurring injuries, while Saúl lost his spot following the managerial change from Filipe Luís to Leonardo Jardim. Amid these uncertainties, the outcome of Plata's sale becomes decisive for Flamengo's planning for the remainder of the season.
