Flamengo beat Bahia 3-0 at Arena Fonte Nova to remain at the top of the Campeonato Brasileiro. Despite the commanding scoreline secured with goals from Jorginho, Plata, and Lucas Paquetá, the offensive volume generated by the team could have easily resulted in a 7-0 blowout, according to Bernardo Ramos.

Managed by Leonardo Jardim, the team recorded 21 shots and created seven clear-cut chances, forcing goalkeeper Ronaldo into 11 saves across the 90 minutes. In the video above, Bernardo breaks down the tactical dominance in Salvador and the impact of the result on the title race against Abel Ferreira's Palmeiras at the top of the table.

Attacking efficiency and missed chances

The scoring opened after Pedro played Arrascaeta through into the attacking third, leading to a penalty won by the Uruguayan. Jorginho converted the spot-kick with his signature hop-step run-up. For Bernardo, Jorginho is cementing himself as the focal point of Flamengo's midfield, even surpassing Arrascaeta's influence in the sector.

Despite the victory, the first half saw several clear opportunities go begging. Pedro had three direct scoring chances denied by defenders or Ronaldo. Arrascaeta and Erick Pulgar also had dangerous efforts saved by the opposing keeper before Plata and Paquetá wrapped up the win with composed second-half finishes.

Defensive display and officiating

In defense, Bernardo highlighted the risk taken during a mistake by goalkeeper Rossi when playing out from the back in the first half. In the subsequent sequence, Pulgar received a yellow card—a correct decision according to the commentator, as it did not constitute denial of an obvious goalscoring opportunity warranting a red. Referee Wilton Pereira Sampaio was judged to have had a solid, neutral outing without major controversies.

At fullback, Emerson Royal started on the left and outperformed Varela on the right, according to Bernardo. The result eases the pressure following the previous setback against Estudiantes and sets the stage for the second leg against the Argentine side at the Maracanã.
