Mariana Andrade Breaks Down SP Race and Eyes Floripa

After taking second place and the fastest bike split in São Paulo, the triathlete fine-tuned her four-week training block for Florianópolis.

Finishing second at Ironman 70.3 São Paulo with the fastest bike split, Mariana Andrade broke down her race strategy and the physical toll on the run. The triathlete also explained how she structured her four-week training block ahead of Florianópolis.

At Ironman 70.3 São Paulo, Mariana Andrade secured second place overall, clocking the day's fastest bike split among women. Her strategy on the bike, however, required a heavy physical toll right from the start. Mariana took a risk in the opening 30 to 40 kilometers to bridge the gap to the front pack and chase down leader Rachel Klamer.

Realizing that sustaining that pace would be impossible, the triathlete chose to steady her intensity to protect her run. The early push took its toll in transition, leaving Mariana feeling heavily fatigued as she started the half marathon, though she steadily built her pace to defend her podium spot all the way to the finish line.

Short Training Block and Transition to Florianópolis

With only four weeks between the two races, planning required utmost precision. Mariana noted that the period was used strictly for fine-tuning: the first week focused on recovery, followed by two weeks of high-quality volume, and finally a taper during race week.

Steadily progressing throughout the season, the Brazilian arrives in Florianópolis confident in her preparation, relying on the consistency built since the year's opening races.
