Luiza Pais Eyes 70.3 Floripa and Relives Course Memories
Following a shortened training cycle after Rio, the pro triathlete celebrates her return to Jurerê and the emotion of the course.
After dealing with fatigue and muscle soreness following her race in Rio, Luiza Pais registered for IRONMAN 70.3 Florianópolis at the final deadline. The triathlete details her quick turnaround and reflects on the strong emotional bond of racing this familiar course.
Luiza Pais' return to Florianópolis for IRONMAN 70.3 carries a deeply personal meaning. Just weeks after taking on the Rio de Janeiro event, the professional triathlete confirmed her spot in Santa Catarina near the close of registration, motivated by fond memories and a strong connection to the streets of the island capital.
Short Training Cycle and Post-Rio Recovery
The decision to line up at the start came about three to four weeks before the race, on the penultimate day before pro field entries closed. The preceding period called for caution: Luiza finished the Rio race physically depleted and battling unusual leg pain, prompting her team to sharply reduce training volume to allow for recovery and assessment.
Facing a condensed timeline, the focus shifted to rebuilding base volume, particularly on the bike. Without the luxury of a long, structured build like the one designed for a full Ironman, Luiza is taking a pragmatic approach, aiming to deliver her best possible performance under current conditions and letting the outcome reflect the effort.
Family Memories on Rua dos Búzios
Beyond the competitive test, returning to the Florianópolis course stirs up powerful emotions. The run leg traces the same route that marked her recent campaign at IRONMAN Brasil, an event that brought her entire family together—parents, children, siblings, in-laws, and close friends—at a rented house near the end of Rua dos Búzios.
Running past that spot became one of the defining moments of her career, pausing briefly to hug her kids and parents amid the roar of the crowd—a surge of energy she compares to something far more potent than any nutritional supplement. Scouting the course on foot the day before the 70.3 brought those supportive memories right back to the surface.
This time around, her cheer squad on site is more intimate, joined by her husband Luiz, Rafinha, and teammate Nana, who is also racing. Even with a smaller crew by her side, Luiza emphasizes that revisiting the venue brings a deep sense of gratitude and lightness as she takes on this latest challenge.
